A question we get a lot here at the Desert Springs Group is, “Are the Las Vegas landscaping rebates are still available from the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA)? The answer is a resounding yes, and if you decide to hire us to create a dream yard for you we can advise you throughout the process about how to get the rebates. The rebates are available when you take out grass areas of your yard.
Las Vegas Landscaping Rebates
The official rebate from the SNWA is $1.50 per square foot of grass removed and replaced with desert landscaping up to the first 5,000 square feet converted per property, per year. Beyond the first 5,000 feet, SNWA will provide a rebate of $1 per square foot. Click now for more information about the Las Vegas landscaping rebate from the official website of the SNWA.
The rebate is offered to entice homeowners and business owners to remove water-thirsty grass in an effort to conserve the vital resource here in the desert. The program has been very successful. According to the SNWA, “every square foot of grass replaced with water-smart trees, shrubs and flowers saves an average of 55 gallons of water per year, so you’ll also save money on your monthly water bill.” Since its inception more than 160 million square feet of grass has been replaced in Southern Nevada leading to the savings of billions of gallons of water.
There are several guidelines that must be followed in order for homeowners to qualify for the discount so please either call us or visit the SNWA website to make sure to do everything properly to meet the criteria. For instance, if you start preparing and stop watering your lawn before the SNWA official comes out to view the property, you could be ineligible for the rebate. The SNWA states that the purpose of the program is to reduce existing water demand, so to qualify you must be currently maintaining a grass lawn. They also make it very clear to not remove the grass until after SNWA completes the pre-conversion visit or your conversion will be ineligible. Also a certified SNWA staff member must validate your turf areas before the project is started.
